What Is Engineered Hardwood Flooring?

What Is Engineered Hardwood Flooring?
The look of wood flooringis enticing many interior designers and homemakers today because it provides a very warm and homey ambiance to any room. A wooden floor, in fact, can be great in any room, whether in the kitchen, living room, dining room and particularly the bedroom.
There’s a difference with how manufacturers make wooden floors today. Unlike in the olden times when wooden floors mean a full plank made of one hard wood material, hardwood flooringtoday is engineered. Engineered hardwood flooringis real wooden floors except it is layered. It is constructed using solid wood Veneer with a plywood backing, held together by a special adhesive. It is pretty much similar to many furniture designs with a wooden veneer top. This engineered flooringshould not be mixed up with laminate flooring. The laminated types are only made to look like wood with its laminated finish but it is not made from real wood. The machine-printed wood pattern is laminated on top with a smooth finish making it look like wood, but the feel will be different.
Advantages of engineered hardwood flooring
This type of flooring is considered very luxurious, traditional, classic, and gives a warm inviting feeling to any room. It is often used in bedrooms and living rooms, but it can be used in practically any type of room. It is ideal for homes located in dry regions because the wood material tends to be more durable when used in these areas.
Engineered wooden floors are made out of layers with a plywood backing. This actually helps prevent cupping due to environmental factors, change in temperature and seasonal changes. This makes it more durable and when one plank is damaged, it can be easily repaired on reconstructed without having to remove the entire slab.
Installation
Engineered hardwood flooringis ideal for houses that are constructed in concrete slabs. But it can actually be installed on anything using nails, adhesive or even just hanging with support columns. It can also be installed over majority of hard surfaces. This includes concrete, plywood, existing vinyl, and even ceramic tile floors.
Homeowner’s preference
Now there will be articles and reviews comparing engineered hardwood flooring to laminated floors or plush carpeting, but in the end, it all boils down to preference. Each type of flooringwill have its own benefits and drawbacks. One only has to consider the factors such as who will be living in the house, how much time does one can commit to maintaining the floors or if aesthetics is more important than function.
